The Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre, named after the late President Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere of Tanzania is a Presidential initiative. Inaugurated on October 2018 by His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni, it was envisioned to provide a unique cross–generational platform, Ekyoto where periodic debates would tap into the lived and rich experiences of Ugandan and indeed African leaders in different fields and in different national contexts

Adopting a collaborative approach in all its activities, the Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre reflects Mwalimu Julius Nyerer’s long held belief in the importance of involving all people for real development to happen. By contextualising problems and their solution, the aim is to build leadership capacity and connectivity among the young, share ideas, nurture, mentor, challenge and account to the next generation of African leaders.
The Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre draws on a wide variety of approaches, including, authoritative and policy relevant research to contribute to solutions that are responsive to the needs of Ugandans and Africans at large. These activities are anchored by the extensive research and training experience at Makerere University and the Uganda Management Institute (UMI), the host institutions.
